Research Directions
When you understand the landscape of new technology developments
expected, and have created your R&D strategy to address
it, Research Directions helps you to plan and roadmap the
necessary effort to research the subject area and arrive at
a successful conclusion.
Research Directions is not just a plan, since in research
it can never be certain that success will be found down particular
routes. Instead it seeks to optimise research effort and manage
risk to arrive at a workable solution via the minimum possible
effort.
Our Approach
We
focus on two aspects, the research advances necessary to achieve
the objective, and the potential routes to meet that. The
aim is to identify multiple potential routes differing in
the greatest possible extent from each other, but with the
possible of cross connection - using different technical solutions
to met orthogonal requirements.
We then define a roadmap with the best chance of success,
mapping this plan in detail. We also seek to plan quick, short
and decisive risk reduction activities to determine the viability
of the elements of this route, and the alternatives.
In this way we can update the plan to take account of research
failures as quickly as possible - and we have scoped out the
other routes early on in the process, allow an optimal system
engineering approach to be used in solution development.
Benefits
Research Directions provides you with a flexible and adaptive
plan that takes account of the uncertainty inherent in research
and delivers resilience and efficiency. By asking key questions
early we can significantly enhance your probability of success
and minimise nugatory effort.
